Luke Humphries darts: TX1, weights and Red Dragon setup

Luke Humphries keeps a steady pace and a high floor over long matches. He prepares finishes well and often gives an opponent only a short window after a weak visit.
The “Cool Hand” nickname describes his composed stage manner. For the equipment question, the useful facts are that Red Dragon sells several TX and Prestige ranges with different shapes, weights and grip patterns.
Humphries’ career and the retail models are separate questions. He is a world champion, Premier League winner and multiple major champion; that record does not establish one permanent stage setup.

Why “Cool Hand” suits Humphries so well
“Cool Hand” is Humphries’ established nickname. He usually keeps a similar pace after a missed double, but his appearance alone cannot tell us what he is thinking.
The observable feature is repetition: a short preparation, similar pace and much the same routine after a strong or weak visit.
The effect is visible in the remaining score: after a weak visit from the opponent, Humphries will often have a two-dart finish.
The nickname describes his stage manner; it does not replace results or technical analysis of the throw.
From underrated talent to the very top
Humphries reached the top of the PDC through the Development Tour and early televised events.
After success in the youth system, he won the 2019 PDC World Youth Championship. His major breakthrough followed in autumn 2023.
In 2023 he won the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals. The 2024 World Championship followed.
A run of titles across different formats says more than one isolated high average. The World Grand Prix uses double-in legs, the Grand Slam combines a group stage with knockout rounds, and the Players Championship Finals demands repeated short knockout matches. Humphries won all three within a few weeks.
How Humphries handles pressure
From outside, only Humphries’ routine and results can be assessed, not his thoughts during a visit.
What can be observed is that his routine changes little after a hit or a miss.
His results and finishing percentages are better evidence under pressure than his facial expression. Tournament match statistics let a reader compare checkout rates, averages and missed doubles without guessing at mood from a television close-up.
The nasty bit: Against Humphries, one high visit is rarely enough. The opponent has to maintain the scoring through to the doubles.
2023: when Humphries suddenly started winning everything
2023 was the year “strong player” became “problem for everyone”. Luke Humphries won the World Grand Prix, the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals. That was not a little purple patch. That was a statement with steel on it.
Before that, you could still say: yes, very talented, very strong, but he still needs to prove it on the biggest TV stages. After that, the excuse was gone. Humphries had shown he could win several huge titles in a short spell.
And in darts that matters. You can nick one major with a hot weekend. Three big titles close together? Different story. That is level. That is head. That is belief in the routine.
From then on you could feel it: he was not just in the mix. He was moving into the front row.
2024: world champion against Luke Littler
Humphries faced Luke Littler in the 2024 World Championship final. Littler had reached the final on debut; Humphries arrived after winning three major PDC titles in autumn 2023.
Humphries won the final 7–4 in sets. The world title followed his World Grand Prix, Grand Slam and Players Championship Finals wins.
His scoring and finishing in the later sets decided the match. The result can be described without diminishing Littler’s tournament.
The 7–4 win made Humphries PDC World Champion for the first time. On this page the final is a career result, not a personality comparison.
What Humphries won after the world title
Humphries won further major titles after the World Championship, so his record does not stop in January 2024.
After that came more big titles and finals. World Matchplay, Premier League, Masters, Players Championship Finals — Humphries did not just live off the world champion photo. He kept playing like someone who did not just want one trip to the top.
Those later titles show that he maintained his level. There is no need to guess at his internal motivation.
Humphries and Littler sit at the top of the PDC with different throwing rhythms. Neither should be assumed to use a retail set unchanged.
Luke Humphries darts: Red Dragon, TX Series and Prestige
Luke Humphries plays Red Dragon. Player profiles list his darts as Red Dragon Signature, and in the shops you will find several Cool Hand ranges. That is where you have to slow down: not every Luke Humphries set is automatically the set you remember from one specific TV match.
Retail model and stage setup: The retail TX1 Pioneer uses 90% tungsten: 22g or 24g, a 43.2mm front-weighted torpedo barrel, short Nitrotech shaft and extra-thick Hardcore flight. Prestige, TX3 and TX4 are different barrels. A TV image alone cannot confirm Humphries’ current points (puntas), shafts (cañas) or flights (plumas).
Red Dragon has built a proper Cool Hand product world around him: TX1, TX3, TX4 Avenger, Prestige, brass versions, flights, stems, cases and accessories. Nice for choice. Bit of a maze if you are buying.
What many Humphries darts have in common
- Usually 90% tungsten in the better ranges: that keeps the barrel compact enough for tighter grouping.
- Torpedo / compact barrel shapes: not always long and skinny like classic straight barrels.
- Controlled grip: not the sticky stuff that rips the dart out of your throw.
- Clean release feel: fits a player built around repetition and rhythm.
Patty’s material note: With Humphries I would not buy blind just because of the name. TX1, Prestige, TX4 and other ranges can feel properly different. The important bit is not “Cool Hand is on the box”, it is whether the weight, barrel shape, grip and balance fit your throw.
Why Humphries keeps opponents under pressure
Humphries is not a chaos player. He does not only win through spectacular one-off moments. He wins because his floor is so high that the other player starts to feel every little mistake will cost them.
A 60 from the opponent often lets Humphries prepare a finish. If the opponent misses doubles, he frequently converts on the next visit. That pattern creates the pressure described here.
Across a long format he offers few extended low-scoring spells, so an opponent usually has to take the first finishing chance.
Put simply: Humphries applies pressure through repeatable scoring and strong finishing in important legs, not through slow play.
Quick check: make sure you pick the right Luke Humphries darts
Amazon stock and variants change all the time. With player darts, you often get several weights, soft tip versions, accessories and similar ranges sitting next to each other.
Important: For steel tip darts, look for “steel tip”, “steel darts” or “metal points”. Soft tip is for electronic boards and it is not the same set.
With Luke Humphries, one more thing matters: TX Series is not automatically Prestige, Prestige is not automatically his exact TV setup, and a brass version is not a 90% tungsten pro-style dart. Read first, then click.

Red Dragon Luke Humphries TX1 Steel
A steel-tip TX1 player model. Check the selected weight on Amazon; TX1 and TX5 remain separate generations.
These are direct Amazon UK links to Luke Humphries / Red Dragon products. Still check the weight, point type and selected variant before buying. Amazon may show similar player darts, and that is where mistakes happen fast.
Patty’s note: If Amazon shows you soft tip darts, brass darts, flights, stems or a similar Red Dragon set after the click, do not just carry on. With Humphries, series, weight and point type have to match.
The truth at the oche: TX1 and other Humphries models
With Humphries darts, the exact model is decisive. The TX1 is a short, front-weighted torpedo; other Cool Hand ranges use different shapes and grip zones.
The TX1 has mild grip. If you need a sharp front section or full-length grip, inspect the machining on the selected model rather than buying on the Humphries name.
Check whether the short torpedo places your fingers where you normally hold the dart. Rear grippers or players who need several grip positions may prefer a longer straight barrel.
My straight call: Buy by range, weight and barrel shape. The player photo is not evidence that the dart suits your grip.
Luke Humphries after the 2026 World Cup win
Luke Humphries remains at the top end of the game. In 2026 he won the World Cup of Darts for England alongside Luke Littler. That title sits with his World Championship, Premier League and Masters wins, so his record did not stop moving after 2024.
His results are built on high scoring and strong finishing across different formats. The 2026 World Cup adds a team title to that record.
An opponent has to sustain that level across the full format. A few good legs are rarely enough against his baseline.
“Cool Hand” is now the established nickname of a multiple PDC major winner.
FAQ on Luke Humphries darts
What darts does Luke Humphries use?
Luke Humphries is a Red Dragon player. Player profiles list his darts as Red Dragon Signature. In retail you will see several Humphries ranges like TX1, Prestige, TX3 or TX4, so always check the exact range, weight and point type.
Are Luke Humphries darts good for beginners?
It depends on the model. Some Humphries darts are controlled and not extremely aggressive in the grip. That can be nice for beginners with a calm throw. But if you do not know your weight yet, do not buy just because of the name.
What is typical of Luke Humphries darts?
Many of the better Humphries ranges use 90% tungsten, compact barrel shapes and controlled grip. They feel more built for repetition and clean release than for maximum finger bite.
What is the difference between the TX Series and Prestige?
They are different Red Dragon ranges. Barrel shape, grip, weight and balance can feel different. So do not think “Luke Humphries is Luke Humphries”. The exact range decides a lot.
Why is Luke Humphries called “Cool Hand”?
The nickname fits his calm style at the board. Humphries rarely looks rushed and wins many matches through control, rhythm and clean decision-making.
What should I check before buying?
First check steel tip or soft tip, then weight, tungsten percentage, barrel shape and range. Amazon can mix accessories, soft tip darts and similar Red Dragon products very quickly.
